Kokomo and Its Many Caves
A solo exhibition by Max Cleary

November 18 - December 23
Opening November 18, 4-8pm

Winston’s presents Kokomo and Its Many Caves, the first Los Angeles solo exhibition from artist Max Cleary. Inhabited by photographs, sculpture, furniture, and reliquaries, the gallery takes the shape of a hybrid living room/reading room. Centered around the narrative of Cleary’s recently self-published monograph, The Complex Number Zero, these works hover between utilitarian and decorative, between familiar and absurd, between alive and dead. They insist on the existence of a spirit, contained in objects, living in our homes, making records and keeping secrets.

Available at the exhibition is Cleary’s first monograph, The Complex Number Zero, which was self-published in August 2023.

Kokomo and Its Many Caves also features works by and in collaboration with Gan Uyeda, Ayaka Takao, TROPIC Editions, Micah McDermott, Chad and Chikako Okada, Becca Lofchie, and Emi Arimura.
